The first step is to get organized. Lay out all the materials you will need in an organized manner, to minimize the chances of harming the artwork. Dry Mount Tissues or Films, Foam Mount Boards, blades, and hand tools should get you ready.
Make sure all mounting surfaces are clean of any stray marks, and free of any debris that may be present. That includes; the tissue, Release Paper or Release Board, the substrate (mounting board), and the artwork itself. We do not to leave any unwanted marks or indentations on the surface of the finished product.
Pre heat the dry mount press to the desired temperature, according the manufacturers specs. Heat Testing Strips may be used at this time to ensure the accuracy of the press’s thermometer. Temperatures and times may vary according to the type of tissue being used, the type of substrate used, and the characteristics of the paper artwork.
Reduce the moisture content of the mounting board and artwork first. This is done by placing them, one at a time, in the press for a few seconds with the release board. Do not lock the press.
After this had been accomplished, place the cut to size adhesive tissue or film between the artwork and the mounting board. Tack into place with a Sealector Tacking Iron, using a small piece of scrap paper or mat board as a buffer for the tacking iron. We do that to avoid touching the artwork directly, which could cause an irregularity in the surface.
Place the artwork, which has been tacked to the mounting board, under the release paper in the center of press, close it, and lock it slowly and carefully. Time the process according the manufacturers instructions.
Work outward from the center, overlapping each new “bite” of the press, until the entire surface has mounted.
M&M Distributors recommends removing the newly mounted artwork from the press after the prescribed amount of time. You want to let it cool under a counter weight for a few minutes, to insure a proper flatness of the mounting, and to make sure the adhesive is fully cooled. It is important at this time not to let the boards flex or bend. If you have any questions concerning dry mounting artwork contact M&M Distributors.
